Testing Background
  • Initial on air tests of STANAG 4538 FLSU
  • 97km NVIS link Wolcott NY - Stockbridge NY
  • PRELIMINARY
  • Full results are in a paper, authored by Mike
    Wadsworth and Eric Peach, and will be presented
    at Nordic HF 01
  • Testing performed with baseline 3 radio
    firmware. Expected hand off to DERA/TNO/FFI June,
    2001

Testing Background
  • Automated test script
  • Test sequence performed every 30 minutes
  • MIL-STD-141A call placed, time to link and
    frequency recorded
  • As soon as linked data message sent with
    FED-STD-1052, followed by a return to scan
  • Message Throughput calculated based on time to
    linktime to transfertime to return to scan
  • 4538 FLSU performed, time to link and frequency
    recorded (circuit link),return to scan
  • 4538 packet link with message transfer, message
    throughput calculated based on time to link, time
    to transfer, time to terminate link

Testing Background
  • MIL-STD-141A ALE performed LQA every hour, always
    called on the best ranked frequency
  • 4538 FLSU called on next frequency in the scan
    list, no effort expended to call on best
  • 10 frequencies between 3 and 8 MHz utilized
  • Testing performed at 10 Watts
