9Isn't this just one more thing?!
10But were busy enough
We get the wrong idea about service. We feel like
we are being Jesus to those we are serving.
However, it is actually Jesus whom we are
serving. Jesus is that hungry, imprisoned, sickly
stranger we meet. Hard questions Are you
serving Him or ignoring Him? Are you really busy
doing the most important things loving God and
neighbor?
11And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do
it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Colossians 317
Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works and glorify your Father
in heaven. Matthew 516
12We need to be like Jesus. Like him, we need to
be out in the community, connecting with people
through acts of amazing lovewhile connecting
them to a God of amazing grace.
Robert Lewis, founding pastor of Fellowship Bible
Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Robert Lewis
wrote the book The Church of Irresistible
Influence.
13Quote
- Remember that when you leave this earth, you can
take nothing with you that you have received
only what you have given. - (St. Francis of Assisi)

- How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a
single minute before starting to improve the
world. - (Anne Frank)

27Getting Started
28Consider two things
- What can we do?
- Are there limitations based on group size,
age, resources, income, education,
transportation, availability, etc.? - 2. What do we care about?
- Do we care about foster care, rehab
centers, homelessness, AIDS, military wives,
education, ministry to Mexico? What common cause
stirs your heart?
29Two Strategies For Community Missions Involvement
- Identify the needs of your community and start
ministries to service them. - Food bank, learning centers, ESL, clothing closet
- Partner with existing ministries or human-service
agencies that are already accomplishing a shared
vision for the community. - Local mission, homeless shelter, emergency family
housing, safe house for abused women, etc.
30Assessing Community Needs
- Ask people about their needs and dreams
- Look at a demographic profile of your community
- Conduct or use existing research on the needs and
dreams of your community - Recognize the power of existing relationships
(professionals in the church) - Look and listen
31Rules of Engagement with Partner
Agencies
- Have leadership in place (A point
person to facilitate the relationship between
nonprofit and the church) - Plan for consistency (An
official partnership would involve at least
quarterly involvement)
32Rules of Engagement with Partner
Agencies
- Be honest about resources (Our most
valuable resource is our people)
- Dream together (Many
agencies have not thought about the possibilities
if they had extra hands available to assist them)
