A Deadly Introduction
  • The day of the dead is not scary - it's fun! It
is a way that people show respect for the dead.
  • Some people believe that the dead come for food
during The Day of the Dead, so at night they set
    out food.
  • This celebration is only three days long!

3
Day One of the Dead
  • The living relatives go to the cemetery and show
    their respect.
  • The relatives make little areas in their house
that represent their dead ones. (altars)
  • The first day of the dead is Halloween!
  • They make lots of candy to look like the dead to
    put with their altars.
  • The spirits of the dead are expected to pay a
holiday visit home and should be provided with a
    nice altar

Days 2 and 3 of the dead
  • The Dead are full of Life. We see it in the
statues, toys and trinkets of el Dia De Los
Muertos. Miniature skeletons sporting mohawks and
big grins play in rock bands.
  • You see skulls in baked goods and sugar candy as
it is widely known that the Dead love sugar.
  • The sugar skulls of the Days of the Dead are
stacked in huge pyramids throughout the open
    markets of Mexico.

5
Day 2 and 3 of the dead Continued
  • On the Days of the Dead, you will see the Devil,
too, as he plays and frolics with the Skeleton.
  • Looking like a tomb in the catacombs of Rome, the
Mexican bakery's shelves are stacked with sugar
skulls for the Day of the Dead.
