    component within the unit.

Why the GBI
  • Required by Executive order to be responsible for
    the Recovery and Identification of Human Remains
  • No other agency even remotely wanted the job
  • Public Health and DHR gave it up early
  • Available manpower
  • Experience in handling Crime Scenes

PROPOSED
  • Each State to select, equip, train and make
    available a command group and 25 officers
  • These officers would be regulated equipped and
    funded by the applicable FEMA region
  • In the event of a catastrophic event a request
    would go thru channels to the immediately
    surrounding states to deploy their teams under
    the command of the affected state.
