Deacons 1 Their Role in the Local Church

• The local church

• The local church is a body of Christs
  people,
• with work to do to help
  people spiritually,
• and workers to carry out that task,
• with some of them having unique roles.

• To insure that the local church is functioning
  like the body of Christ there are to be pastors
  to lead and oversee Acts 2028
• Part of the New Testament plan for the local
  church is for certain men to work as deacons with
  these elders.

• II. What is a deacon?
• Servant
• Combined with the references to a local church we
  get the full picture
• Servants
• who serve in some way other than all the other
  general workers in the church,
• who serve in conjunction with the elders,
• who are to meet certain qualifications

• An example that provides insight Acts 61-7
• - Seven chosen to perform a service for the
  church
• - They work under the oversight of the
  apostles
• - They are required to meet qualifications
• If not deacons like the I Tim. 3 type, they are a
  at least a precursor, at this very early period
  of the church, to a kind of servant that appears
  in local churches later as the gospel grows
