Title: Monitoring of Pesticide Residues in Estonia 1998 2002
1Monitoring of Pesticide Residues in Estonia 1998
- 2002
- Merike Toome
- Estonian Control Centre of Plant Production
2How did we start?
- 1997 - Estonia started negotiations for joining
EU - New requirements for monitoring of pesticide
residues - Intensive support by PHARE and by neighboring
countries
- 1998 Estonian National Monitoring Programme of
Pesticide Residues was approved by the decree of
Ministry of Agriculture
- Participants
- Health Protection Inspectorate, Tallinn Chemical
Laboratory - Health Protection Inspectorate, Tartu Chemical
Laboratory - Estonian Control Centre of Plant Production
- Institute of Chemical and Biological Physics
3How did we start?
- Training of Sample-collectors
- Help received from Finnish Food Administration
- About 70 sample-collectors were trained
- Training of Chemists
- Help received from Danish Institute of
Agricultural Sciences - Our chemists acquired new skills in Norway,
Sweden, Denmark and Germany
- New Modern Instruments
- Cooperation with Danish Institute of Agricultural
Sciences - PHARE projects
4What we have achieved within 5 years?
- 1875 samples
- 637 samples of domestic origin
- 1220 samples of imported origin
- Pesticide residues were found in 821 samples,
which is 44.2 of the total number of samples - Domestic production
- 488 samples (76.6) clean
- 127 samples (19.9) below MRL
- 22 samples (3.5) above MRL
- Imported production
- 512 samples (41.9) clean
- 657 samples (53.9) below MRL
- 51 samples (4.2) above MRL
