84Helicopter Installation
- Evergreen Helicopter, Inc. was contacted for
an estimate to install Date Palm Trees in the
difficult locations - FAA requires a certificate of flight path.
- City of Surprise must approve aerial lift
project. - Roads in the area will have to be closed.
- Facilities that are near operation must be
evacuated. - FAA requires a homeowner release for every home
that is within flight path, because of helicopter
rotor down draft. - Cost is 10,000-15,000 per tree with a minimum
of 78,000 per day to transfer trees from the
Cimarron parking lot to the planting location.
85Information
It is normal to expect that not everything you
plant will survive the new environment that it
has been transplanted too. In the industry,
there is an expectation that you will lose
somewhere around 2-4 of what you originally
plant. It is also known that your own landscape
on your property accounts for about 10 of the
value of your home with the common area landscape
accounting for about 4. Developers often plant
larger/faster growing vegetation/trees so their
facilities have a mature look to them at the
beginning of construction. With about 10 years
of growth from the ground level plants, the
property now looks mature with or without the
large Date Palms.
86Information (contd)
Staff and the Consultant Arborist surveyed the
property several times and looked at each area of
Date Palms from several different angles. The Sun
City Grand Board of Directors had the CI Team
look at several options so that they can make an
informed decision. This has been looked at both
for an economic and aesthetic point of view
keeping in mind the overall appearance of the
community.
