  • The project aims to review current knowledge and
    issues related to the economic impact of health
    at work.
  • This will be achieved through
  • Co-ordinated reviews
  • Development of common datasets regarding
    indicators of health and safety at work in the
    participant countries
  • Associated GIS analysis capability
  • A pilot study to evaluate how much employees and
    employers are wiling to invest in health and
    safety at work (vignettes)
  • Policy recommendations aiming at improving the
    health and safety in the context of changing
    labour market environment and its repercussions
    in the competitiveness of European labour
    markets.

  • Review the of
  • current state of knowledge on health and safety
    at work in the participant EU countries and to
    identify gaps in knowledge
  • current data (such as the national Labour Force
    Surveys (LFS) regarding the incidence of
    accidents, illnesses and absenteeism at work and
    early retirement due to occupational
    illness/accident and management practices for
    health and safety in the European Union
  • indicators on health and safety at work
  • current knowledge/data related to gender and age
    related aspects of occupational health and
    safety at work
  • management options for current state of affairs
    regarding health and safety at work

  • Expected Results II
  • Hold workshops on assessment and management of
    health and safety at work
  • Explore the possibility of developing new health
    and safety at work indicators by using large
    scale available surveys (such as Labour Force
    Surveys (LFS)
  • Use GIS to map and analyze health and safety at
    work indicators
  • Design a (common) protocol for the collection of
    (new) health and safety at work indicators for EU
    member states

  • Expected Results III
  • Pilot a novel approach to eliciting values of
    both employers and employees regarding the health
    and safety at work
  • Disseminate the information and results from
    various stages of the project through reports and
    publications
  • Develop new research proposals to address
    perceived gaps in the information required for
    improving occupational health and safety
    indicators
  • Propose appropriate protocols for collecting
    additional data (including proposing questions
    for the large scale surveys such as the LFS) that
    can contribute to the improvement of the accuracy
    of health and safety at work indicators
