A complex of 9 multistoried residential blocks
coming up at sector 57, Gurgaon. The complex
namely Freedom Park Life is with Water
harvesting --- Solar water heating
systems. Treatment and re Circulation of toilet
water being used for Horticulture and
flushing Toilets. Using CFL in all common areas
and also requesting owners of flats to use only
CFL in flats.

Solar water heating systems
A total of 15700 LPD solar water heating is
installed / under installation. The hot water is
being supplied through insulated GI pipes, which
were planned and installed, even before ordering
the systems. The systems use cold water from
separate OH cold water Sintex tanks. The Water
is led into the hot water tank through
gravity. Heat exchangers have been provided in
the hot water tanks. Systems have been
installed in 3 buildings and these have been
approved by HAREDA. The process for approval for
the other buildings has been started and the
documentation submitted to HAREDA

Some thoughts/observations

• Limited shadow free terrace space, thereby
  limiting the space available for solar panels.
• The systems were ordered first and then the
  subject of capacity approval was taken up with
  HAREDA. Infact, we had already installed 3
  systems before the visit by HAREDA. Based on
  their valuable suggestions and cooperation of the
  suppliers, we could enhance the capacities of 2
  out of the 3 systems.

Suggestions

• Architects should take special care to enhance
  the available area by looking at designs of
  pergollas and location of OH tanks, to ensure
  larger shadow free space for Solar panels.
• Cold water tanks should be provided with outlets
  at approx. 3 m above the terrace on which the
  solar panels are to be installed.
• The hot water piping should also be planned for
  bathrooms and just not the kitchens.
• The capacity preliminary approvals should by
  taken even before the ordering on suppliers. Help
  on the subject is also available from
  consultants/suppliers.

COOPERATION FROM HAREDA

• We are grateful to HAREDA for all the cooperation
  and advice extended to us. The sites were visited
  by HAREDA local officers as well as officers from
  Chandigarh. As per their suggestions the capacity
  for some of the systems was enhanced.
