Where in the world is Brazil?
  • It is located in South America
  • It takes about 14 hours flying in an airplane to
    get from Wichita, KS to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
  • It is 5,447 miles on the globe

HISTORY OF BRAZIL
  • Brazil was discovered by explorers from Portugal.
    In the year 1500 they claimed it as their land.
    The native inhabitants were mostly Tupi-Guarani
    Indians. The name Brazil comes from pau-brasil,
    which is a red dye made from wood that the early
    explorers brought back to Portugal.

BRAZIL HAS MANY ECOSYSTEMS
  • Brazil has more plants and animals than any other
    environment in the world. The Amazon Rain Forest
    is home to many exotic plants and animals.
  • It also has pine forests, cattle ranches, and
    beaches.
  • It has deer and cattle like Kansas, but also
    Jaguars and Pumas!
  • THE OCEAN
  • It has 4,600 miles of coastline on the Atlantic
    ocean.
  • THE MOUNTAINS
  • Brazil has mountains as high as 9,800 feet, and
    dips all the way down to sea level. There are
    some flat plains (more like Kansas) in the
    southern part.

THE CLIMATE
  • Since it is much closer to the equator, Brazil
    has a much warmer climate than the U.S.
  • It rains every day in the rain forest.

The Economy
  • Sao Paulo, the capital of Brazil, is a big city
    and has many of the same jobs that you would find
    in the U.S.
  • Some of the important industries in Brazil are
    oil, oranges, iron and steel, cattle, and corn

  • Reais (ray-ahs) are the Brazilian equivalent of
    the U.S. dollar.
  • Centavos are the coins.

U.S. prices v. Brazil
  • Milk is about 1.15 per liter.
  • Eggs are about 1.50 per dozen
  • Bread is about 2.00 a loaf
  • A pack of gum is about 50 cents
  • In general, groceries are similar because there
    are a lot of farms in both countries.
  • Gas Cars in Brazil burn gas or 100 ethanol.
    Fuel is around 1.50 per liter, which is 8.50
    per gallon!
