1CWIX
CDR Sonya Cox HQ, Supreme Allied Commander
Transformation Director NATO CWID
2CWID is now CWIX
- During the NATO CWIX Senior Management Group
meeting held in September 2009, the SMG voted
unanimously to change the name of the exercise to
Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXercise. The
following breaks down the importance of each
word. - Coalition The Stakeholders
- Inclusive of all aspects of NATO and non-NATO
entities which may support or be involved in an
operation with NATO - Warrior The Customers
- Reflects the ultimate customer of CWID. While
interaction and interoperability with a broad
range of partners, as reflected by Coalition,
is critical to success, for NATO the ultimate
benefactor is the NATO Operator who requires the
information for mission success - Interoperability The Purpose
- Continuous improvement across the Coalition
- Exercise
- Opens doors for information exchange as a result
of recent security policy changes - Eases funding discussions for nations
- MTEP appearance as exercise vice demonstration
increases interest
3Mission and Vision
- NATO CWIX provides Nations, Agencies, Commands,
and Partners a stable, multi-domain, secure C4ISR
testing environment in order to continuously
improve interoperability and operational
effectiveness. - Coalition Warrior Interoperability Exercise
(CWIX) will support realisation of Network
Enabled Capability-based operations across NATO
and Partners.
42009 Significant Outcomes
- 14 Nations, 6 NATO agencies, and EUROCORPS
participated with 84 trials (systems). - 5178 test interactions, occurred during NATO CWID
2009. This is nearly double the level of testing
in 2008. - NATO CWID expanded the emphasis of assessment to
include a much broader base of functional areas.
- In order to expand the visibility of current
operations testing, integration with JFC Brunssum
was significantly increased. - Better definition of system and functional
requirements to support both ISAF and NRF.
5Other noteworthy outcomes
- The Military Committee visited NATO CWID
- Scenario was the same basic scenario that is used
by ACO and Steadfast series of exercises - SOA grouped several initiatives in experimenting
new web technologies - IETV greatly expanded interoperability testing
6Goals Objectives 2010
1. Interoperability testing of current,
developmental and experimental systems for the
support of current and future NATO and coalition
operations. 2. Advance NNEC in line with the
NATO Networked C3 Interoperability Action
Plan. 3. Improve the sharing of information
between security domains. 4. Focus NRF testing
on the new NRF force structure. 5. Experiment
and test technical interoperability solutions in
support of C3 interoperability standards
development and validation 6. Support the
enhancement of overall NATO Cyber Defence
effectiveness 7. Experiment interoperability
solutions with NGOs, non-NATO Nations and
National Security Forces
7Goals Objectives 2010(Full Text)
