Orientation
We are located on the Main Campus of Lenoir
Community College in Kinston, North Carolina.
When you complete this tutorial, we hope that you

The LRC Circulation Desk
  • Obtain your LCC ID/Library Card
  • You will need a photo ID and the current
    semesters schedule
  • Your LCC ID doubles as your library card
  • You will need to update the sticker on the back
    of your ID card every semester, by bringing in
    your ID and current semester schedule
  • Replacement cards are 5.00
  • Checkout Materials
  • Books that are in print may be checked out for 3
    weeks
  • Music CDs, DVDs, VHS Tapes, and audio books, may
    be checked out for 1 week
  • Renew Materials
  • Books that are in print may be renewed 3 times
    and audiovisual items may be renewed 1 time
  • Items can be renewed over the phone by calling
    the circulation desk if they are not overdue.

Circulation Desk Services
Pay Fines and Fees for Overdue and Lost items
  • Overdue fines for books in print - 0.05 per day
  • Overdue fines for videos/CDs- 1.00 per day
  • If you lose materials borrowed from the LRC, you
    will be charged for the replacement cost of that
    item and any overdue fees incurred.
  • You will not be allowed to register for classes,
    graduate, or receive a transcript of your grades
    if you owe any money for fines or owe materials
    to the LRC!

Circulation Desk Services
There are Two Ways to Return Checked out Material
  • Books can be placed in the outside book drops
    located in the front and back of the LRC when we
    are closed
  • They can also be placed in the inside book drop
    located at the circulation desk
  • CD, DVD, VHS must be returned to the inside
    circulation book drop
  • There is a 5.00 fine if these items are placed
    in the outside book drops

Online Catalog Locations
There are two workstations in the LRC used only
to access the online catalog
One catalog is located near the computer lab near
the front entrance
The other is located on the second floor near the
beginning of the General Collection

Computer Lab
The LRC has 21 computers with Internet Access
available for use by faculty, staff, students,
and the community.
The LRCs computers are for Internet research,
typing papers or class projects.
You may not use the LRCs computers to log into
chat rooms, play games, look at pornography or
view any other offensive materials. If you
violate These rules, your computing privileges
can be suspended!

Where to Pick Up Your Prints
  • All information printed from the computer is
  • .10 cents per page. Make sure you print only what
    you want, as you will be charged for every page
    printed.
  • You may pay for all copies and pick them up
    when you are ready to leave from the circulation
    desk.
  • A photocopy machine is available for use in the
    LRC. It is located across from the computer lab.
  • Copier Prices per page are
  • 8x11 .10 cents
  • Front and Back .20 cents
  • 11x17 .10 cents
  • Front and Back .20 cents

General Collection
All items in this collection may be checked out
for three weeks and are located on the second
floor.
There are study carrels and tables spread
throughout this collection for quiet studying.

Reference Collection
  • Items in this collection may not be checked out
  • You may make copies of any information you need.
  • The Reference Collection, like the General
    Collection, is categorized by LC (Library of
    Congress) call numbers.
  • Example Ref HV 8079 .A7 S83 2006
  • Our encyclopedia and atlas collections are also
    located in the Reference area.

Newspapers, Magazines Journals
  • The current issue of our newspapers and magazines
    are located on the far right wall of the library
    as you enter the front doors.
  • They are arranged on the shelves in alphabetical
    order by title.
  • One years worth of back issues of all newspapers
    and magazines that the LRC receives are shelved
    behind the Circulation Desk.
  • Newspapers and magazines may not be checked out
    of the LRC, but you may make copies of any
    articles you need.

Best Sellers
The best sellers are a collection of books on the
best seller lists located in the center of the
LRCs lobby.
Young Adult Collection
The YA collection is located on the 2nd floor
at the top of the staircase.

Audio Visual Collections
  • This is a collection of audio books,
    videocassettes, DVDs, and CDs on a variety of
    subjects.
  • It is located to the left and right of the front
    doors of the LRC. These items may be checked out
    for one week, but you may only check out 3 at a
    time.

Spanish Lab and Conference Rooms
  • There are two conference rooms on the
  • first floor of the LRC. One doubles as the
  • Spanish Learning Lab.
  • If you would like to watch a Spanish video
    while you are in the LRC, you will be able to use
    the Spanish Lab. A TV and VCR are provided.
  • Anyone who wishes to work in a group should
    sit at the study tables or use the conference
    rooms. Talking is permitted at the tables,
    although we ask you to be considerate of those
    working around you.

Heritage Place - Genealogy
  • Heritage Place is located through the door behind
    the Reference Collection.
  • It houses a special reserved collection of
    genealogical and local/state historical materials
    including 19th century newspapers of the Kinston
    area, census records, church records, land
    grants, and other colonial records of counties in
    eastern North Carolina.
  • The research material focuses primarily on
    eastern North Carolina, but provides service for
    Greene, Jones and Lenoir counties and a large
    section of Virginia.

LRC Conduct Policy
  • The basic rules of conduct when visiting the LRC
    are
  • Food and Drinks of any kind are not allowed in
    the library by anyone
  • No cell phone usage is allowed in the library
  • Cell phone ringers should be off or set to
    vibrate
  • Sleeping is not allowed in the library common
    areas
  • The LRC must maintain a quiet atmosphere for
    those who are studying and working on
    assignments, so please talk in a low voice when
    you are here
  • If the security alarm sounds when you attempt to
    leave the LRC, please return to the Circulation
    Desk so we can correct the problem
  • Being rude to, arguing with, or using profanity
    toward the LRC staff or other patrons will not be
    tolerated
  • Anyone who does not abide by this conduct policy
    will result in you being asked to leave the
    library and the loss of your LRC privileges
