Henry's past

• Henry was born in 1887, on the 23rd November in
  Weymouth.
• He graduated from Trinity College of the
  University of Oxford
• After this he went studied at Manchester
  university, under Ernest B Rutherford.
• For a year after that he had a full teaching load
  but was relieved of this and went into full time
  research

Henry's Research

• In 1913 Henry found his key discovery
• He discovered that using x-ray spectra by
  diffraction in crystals, that there was a
  systematic relation between wavelength and atomic
  number
• Before Henrys discovery of atomic number, atomic
  number was thought of as arbitrary number based
  on the sequence of atomic weights.

• Henrys discovery showed that atomic numbers were
  not arbitrary but had an experimentally
  measurable basis.
• He showed that there were gaps in the sequence at
  numbers 43 and 61 which are now known to be
  radioactive
• Thus Henry Moseley discovered two new elements.

The End

• In 1914 Henry enlisted in the royal engineers
  when world war 1 broke out
• He fought at Gallipoli where he was killed in
  action by a sniper
