tend to see life through rose colored glasses.

2
Paradigms
  • The way you see something.
  • Your point of view.
  • Like glasses. When you have incomplete or
    incorrect paradigms about yourself
  • or life, its like wearing
  • glasses with the wrong
  • prescription.

3
Examples of Paradigms

  • We lost that game because the referees were
    horrible.

  • I can do it.
  • I am going to graduate from college.
  • Negative Examples
  • I cant make the honor roll.
  • He/she would never be friends with me.

5
  • ARE YOUR PARADIGMS OF YOURSELF
  • HELPING
  • OR
  • HURTING
  • YOU?

6
How do I fix negative paradigms of myself?
  • Spend time with someone who believes in you
    (parents, teachers, coaches, good friends)
  • Limit time with negative people.

7
Paradigms of Others
  • Many times the way we see others is not actually
    who they are.
  • Many relationships are damaged because of
    incorrect paradigms.

8
Paradigms of Life what you center your life on
- Friends - Stuff - Boyfriend/girlfriend -
School - Parent - Other - Principals (the one
you want!)
9
Friend Centered
  • Friends are great!
  • but
  • Occasionally they are fake
  • Sometimes they talk behind your back
  • After high school, you may not see them
  • What should I do?
  • Make friends, but dont build your life around
    them.

10
Stuff Centered
  • Stuff is nice, but
  • We are taught to believe that whoever has the
    most toys/gadgets wins
  • There is a false sense of happiness when you have
    these things.
  • What should I do?
  • There is nothing wrong with stuff, but we
should never center our life around them.

11
Boyfriend/Girlfriend Centered
  • Its great to have a boyfriend/girlfriend, but
  • The more you center your life on someone else,
the more unattractive you become to that person.
  • What should I do?
  • Do not build all of your life and emotions around
    one person.

12
School Centered
  • School is very important, but
  • Dont become obsessed with good grades, honor
    roll, GPA, etc.
  • Schools purpose is for you to learn, not be 1.
  • What should I do?
  • You can do extremely well in school and still
maintain a healthy balance in life.

13
Parent Centered
  • Its important to respect your parents, but
  • Dont do things just to please your parents
  • I play sports because my Dad would be devastated
    if I didnt.
  • What should I do?
  • Your parents are your greatest source of love and
guidance. You should love and respect them,
however you should not live your life trying to
    please them.

14

    or conduct.
  • Examples of principles (there are many)
