Cognos Training

• Cognos - Reporting tool used to view data from
  the Data Warehouse
• Data Warehouse data is supplied from SIS and is
  updated nightly
• There are several views of data (data marts)
• - Student
• - Student Accounts
• - Financial Aid
• - Human Resources
• - Financial Affairs

-User ID equals NETID -Password equals Cognos
password that is supplied -The Cognos ID/NETID
and Password process is requested thru The Main
Campus Registrars office -Click on Logon and
next page displays

-From this page click on Student Data Mart -Then
on Impromptu Web Reports (IWR) -Then on SIS
Reports to the following list of reports Class
Roster by Term Course Class Roster by Term
Primary Iinstructor Expected Graduation Main
Campus Majors Student Schedule Class Roster by
Term Department Enrollment GU
Colleges MainCampusCclleges Study Abroad -These
are canned reports that the user may need to
decide the Term, College, etd in order To have
the report run.

• At this point a couple Cognos Web Reports will be
  created and discussed
• Generate/Create - Class Roster by Term Course
  Report
• -Note that that term and course have to be
  selected
• Generate/Create Expected Graduation Report
• -No data selections are done to generate this
  report

Benefits of Cognos Web Reports

• Easy to access
• Easy to create
• Report templates already determined
• For some web reports user determines - term,
  college, majors, etc.
• A variety of reports are available
• Student Course Meta-data is available
• No calculation exist on these reports

Accessing Cognos Client Reports

• Click on Cognos icon on desktop
• The following screen will display
• User ID NETID
• Password Cognos Password that is supplied
• Click on LogOn button

• Once the following screen displays the user
  decides how report will be created
• Select File and then New from the menu bar

  New from the menu bar the following screens

• User clicks on the Simple List icon which
  will cause the following screen to display
