About our town...
  • Glogów and its citizens

11
Glogów defence
  • Around the 10th century the town of Glogów was
inhabited by a tribe called Dziadoszans which
    lived from farming.
  • On 24th August 1109 the emperor Henry V
approached the town with his army. The defenders
of Glogów made a five-day truce with the emperor
who took the defenders sons as hostages.
  • However Boleslaw Krzywousty never agreed to
surrender Glogów. The emperor did not abide by
the conditions of the truce and ordered to tie
the hostages to the siege towers. They later died
in the fight. The invasion lasted for many days.
  • Finally the emperors army withdrew from the
siege of Glogów and moved southwards.
