About Truck Tolling
  • Truck Tolling is a tolling scheme that enables
fully automatic collection of fees from heavy
    goods vehicles using the roads.
  • Transactions are done automatically at high speed
  • The systems can be based on a variety of
    technologies
  • Which solution is optimal, depends on the purpose
of the tolling scheme, km of road to be covered,
number of vehicles, legal aspects, etc.
  • Q-Free is delivering the enforcement and central
system for the Worlds first nationwide Truck
    Tolling System in Slovakia.

3
Global Volume of Road Transport Expected to Grow
111 from 2000-30
  • Number of heavy vehicles has exploded
  • Size and weight of trucks are increasing
  • One truck abrades the roads much more than
    passenger cars
  • Lack of Truck Tolling possibilities in many
    countries (no systems)

(1) Passenger cars, powered two-wheelers, buses
coaches, tram metro, railways, air, sea
(2) Road, sea, rail, inland waterways,
pipelines, air

Roadside Data Collection
  • Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
  • Payment is transferred when the vehicle passes a
pre-defined spot in the road network, known as
    Virtual Charging Point
  • The OBU contains a GPS Module for positioning
  • Drivers declare classification data that is
stored in the On Board Unit, e.g. number of axels
  • Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC)
    vehicle-to-roadside
  • Payment is transferred when the vehicle passes a
    physical charging points
  • The OBU transmits ID, classification, etc using
    DSRC

With On Board Unit (OBU)
  • Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR)
  • Cameras mounted on physical gantries
  • Vehicle identified by optical character
    recognition, matched against electronic vehicle
    registry and owner charged accordingly

Without On Board Unit (OBU)
