Title: Mobility Management Issues in NGN R2

Mobility Management Issues in NGN R2

2
NGN-GSI MM Group
  • JRG of Q6/13, Q29/16, and Q2/19
  • Developing Mobility Management (MM) related
    recommendations for NGN/B3G
  • Stage 1 recommendation for MM was completed at
the end of 2006 (Q.1706/Y.2801 Mobility
    Management Requirements for NGN)
  • On-going draft Recommendations
  • Q/Y.MMF Generic Mobility Management Framework
    for NGN (2Q 2007 AAP)
  • Q/Y.LMF Location Management Framework for
    NGN(2008)
  • Q/Y.HMF Handover Management Framework for
    NGN(2008)

3
Basic Concepts of M/L/HMF-(1)
  • Mobilities according to service quality specified
    Q.1706/Y.2801
  • Current draft recommendations (Q.MMF/LMF/HMF) are
basically targeting to cover all kinds of
    mobilities
  • But, the targeting mobility level could be
different according to mobility types (Inter-CN,
    Inter-AN, and Intra-AN)

4
Basic Concepts of M/L/HMF- (2)
  • Currently focus on Terminal Mobility but other
mobilities (Personal, Service, etc) also should
be covered later (maybe as independent
    recommendations)
  • Basic idea is that all access technologies should
be covered but it might be valuable to consider
    first more promising access technologies

5
Relationship with NGN R2
  • All recommendations of MM group (Q.1706/Y.2801,
M/L/HMF) are targeting seamless mobility, not
    nomadism
  • Believe that the scopes is identical with it of
    NGN R2, NOT R1
  • Fully agree with NTTs suggestion except a minor
    note
  • To progress the work on Release 2, it is
necessary to set clear goal, scope and schedule
of work. Since Q.6/13 MM group is primary group
regarding mobility, results from Q.6/13 MM group
should be shared with Scope document (Q.1/13) and
Requirements document (Q.2/13) to clarify the
    Release 2 work
  • Currently Rapporteur of Q6/SG13 may be
responsible for the harmonization on behalf of MM
    group

6
Discussion for Cooperation
  • In NGN R2, any plan for contribution from CJK?
  • Few contributions during NGN R1
  • Scope of ITU-T standardizations regarding MM
  • Stage 1/2 only (requirement and framework)?
  • or possibly stage3 (protocols)?
  • Which is the best way for CJK cooperation?
  • Idea exchange and make one common proposal of
    CJK ?
  • or pre-review others contributions and try to
    make rough consensus ?
  • or contribute independently and discuss in the
    NGN-GSI meeting ?

7
Appendix ToCs of MMF/LMF/HMF
  • MMF is now stable but the ToC of LMH/HMF could be
    changed by future contributions
  • Contributions are requested!
