2Safety Rules
- Always wear safety goggles whenever you are
working with chemicals or other substances that
might get into your eyes.
3- Immediately notify your teacher if any chemical
gets on your skin, eyes or clothing to find out
what to do to clean it off.
4- Never look directly into a test tube when mixing
or heating chemicals.
5- Never smell a chemical directly from the
container. Wave your hand over the opening and
waft the fumes toward your nose.
6- Never taste a chemical unless you are instructed
by your teacher to do so.
7- Always clean up your work area and equipment
after an experiment is completed. Return all
supplies where instructed to do so.
8- Read and follow all directions exactly as they
are written. If in doubt, ask your teacher for
help!
9- Never mix chemicals (or perform tests) without
your teachers permission.
10- Never run (or push someone else) in the lab.
11- Keep lids on bottles and containers when not in
use.
12- Never use broken or chipped glassware.
13- Keep your work area clean.
14- Never wear loose clothing, dangling jewelry or
open-toed shoes.
15- Keep long hair tied back.
16- Immediately notify your teacher if you get cut or
have another injury while performing an
experiment.
17- Wash your hands at the beginning and end of each
experiment.
18Beaker
Beakers are used to hold liquids that will not
release gas and do not splatter when heated.
19Erlenmeyer Flask
Flasks are used to hold liquids that will release
gas and do not splatter when heated.
20Graduated Cylinder
Used to measure the volume of liquids.
21Test Tubes
Used to heat or mix small amounts of chemicals
22Test Tube Tongs (holder)
Used to hold the test tube when heating Safety

Used to store and organize test tubes while
completing a lab.
24Glass Stir Rod
A glass rod is used to manually stir solutions.
It can also be used to transfer a single drop of
a solution.
25Forceps
Forceps (or tweezers) are used to pick up small
objects.
26Wash Bottle
A wash bottle has a spout that delivers a wash
solution to a specific area. Distilled water is
the only liquid that should be used in a wash
bottle.

Beaker tongs are used to move beakers containing
hot liquids
