    outcomes?

5
Writing the analysis Things to do
  • Have an opinion and defend it
  • Use the terms and the language youve learned in
    class
  • Cite evidence from the case to support your
inferences and assumptions, and the points you
    make
  • Apply course material
  • Reference other cases, as appropriate
  • You do not need to do ALL of these things!

6
Writing the analysis Things to avoid
  • Throwing around lots of jargon hoping something
    sticks
  • Going into a lot of detail about the events of
the case (remember Ive read it too)

7
Tips warnings
  • Think hard about what you believe is going on in
the case ask yourself Why? a least three
    times
  • Youre like a doctor (or a detective) trying to
figure out whats really going on from the
    evidence in front of you.
  • Sometimes symptoms (or clues) can lead you to
false conclusions if youre not careful
  • Sections headers can help you organize the
    presentation of your arguments

8
Tips warnings (cont.)
  • You may well write twice as much as what you
actually turn in this is okay! Preferable,
    even.
  • Re-read the article Preparing an Effective Case
Analysis linked to from the section website.
  • Run a spell check!!
  • Stay well-hydrated and remember to breathe.
