  • Present in gt3000 building materials because of
    its desirable physical properties
  • Asbestos Related Diseases
  • Asbestosis
  • Mesothelioma
  • Lung Cancer
  • Cancer of the intestinal tract, stomach
  • LEAD
  • Heavy, soft, easily worked metal
  • Used in paint
  • As a pigment
  • As a drying agent
  • Adds durability and corrosion control
  • Once in the environment, potentially a problem
    forever
  • Health affects include, but are not limited to
    persistent tiredness, hyperactivity, loss of
    appetite, weight loss, reduced attention span,
    difficulty sleeping, constipation, and

Asbestos Lead Project Requirements
  • ALL demolition, renovation, repair, or
    installation of new or old items in University
    buildings shall be conducted through Facilities
    Services and the designated individual on each
    campus to ensure
  • OEHS involvement before, during, and after
    construction activities
  • Appropriate, qualified contractors are used
  • Outside contractors are made aware of all hazards
    that exist prior to commencement of work
  • Appropriate controls are in place
  • Work activities are conducted in accordance with
    regulatory requirements
