Background

• ITS America restructuring approved by Board of
  Directors in May 2002
• Created 6 Forums to manage member activities
• New Commercial Vehicle Freight Mobility Forum
  established

Forum Mission

• Work with both the public and private sectors to
  develop and deploy commercial vehicle and
  intermodal freight technologies and systems that
• save lives, time, and money
• enhance quality of life
• strengthen homeland security in North America

Forum Goals

• Expand membership of the forum to include regular
  representation from all states all segments of
  the intermodal freight industry and relevant
  federal and international agencies
• Achieve ongoing collaboration with key state,
  regional, international, and industry partners
  and associations
• Provide policy guidance and address critical
  questions related to emerging technologies and
  information systems
• Work with ITS stakeholders to advocate and
  facilitate the implementation of guiding
  principles and best practices

Reauthorization Program Goals

• Improve transportation safety reduce number of
  fatalities and injuries from truck and bus
  related crashes
• Improve security of commercial freight transport
  system
• Improve freight mobility and productivity of
  goods movement across all modes
• Enhance efficiency of state regulatory agencies
• Reduce impact of freight movement on energy
  consumption and environment

• Support RD activities outlined in 10-Year ITS
  Program Plan and by USDOT high priority for
• New CVISN operational concepts to address driver
  and cargo safety and security needs
• Freight tracking and visibility technologies,
  with emphasis on hazardous materials, port, and
  border operations
• Medium- and heavy-truck IVI technologies with
  safety and security benefits

• Maintain and expand CVISN Architecture and

  public/private intermodal freight information
