• Wind is air in motion
• Since the earths surface is made of very
  different types of land and water, it absorbs the
  heat at different rates
• This uneven heating by the sun creates WIND!

Using Wind Energy to Create Electricity

• Today, wind energy is used to generate
  electricity
• Wind is called a renewable energy resource
  because the wind will blow as long as the sun
  shines

Follow the Web Quest and Web Quest Challenges
and then complete the following tasks

• Math Connection
• Use the vertical axis wind turbine to measure the
  voltage at Speed 1, Speed 2, and Speed 3
• Make a bar graph of your data
• What wind speed generated the highest voltage?

• Science Connection
• Design and create something that uses wind energy
  for example a sailboat or a kite

• Language Arts Connection
• Write a persuasive letter to the town manager in
  your community explaining why wind energy is a
  good source of renewable energy. Make
  suggestions where a wind turbine could be used to
  create electricity in your town.

• Social Studies Connection
• Have a debate with opposing views of the pros and
  cons of wind energy
