Why Treat Food Residues On-site?
  • Resource Recovery and Reuse
  • Tightening Legislation
  • Rising Costs
  • C-footprints
  • Hygiene
  • Storage, Scavengers Vermin
  • Beneficial Products
  • Cost Benefits

9
In-Vessel Composting
Key Features
  • Enclosed vessel gives accelerated composting
  • Continuous process for compatibility with waste
    arisings
  • Optimisation of environment for microbes through
    intermittent but frequent automatic
controllable turning to ensure the whole mass is
advanced and regularly exposed to aerobic
    conditions
  • Pasteurisation achieved in 9-14 days
    producing odourless composted product
  • Hygienically produces compost on a small
scale Suitable for small industrial catering
    units, hotels restaurants, prisons,
    universities etc.
  • Temperature monitoring for ABPR compliance
    PC downloadable
  • Numerous units across UK ABPR approved

10
In-Vessel Composters IVCss
  • contained, controlled, hygienic, quicker
    composting process
  • higher throughput - more commercially viable
  • ABPRegs 2003 Compliance P16 single premises
exempt if compost used on site

NB - What mixture MUST I use?
High Nitrogen Waste e.g. Food waste
including Meat Fish Vegetables Fruit NB. When
wet food waste is used we recommend using a
dewatering system to remove excess water to
achieve 60-65 moisture.
High Carbon Waste e.g.Wood Pellets Chipped wood
waste Wood chip from trees Waste / broken
pallets NB. Chipped wood provides a better
structure than shredded wood or wood shavings,
but shavings and sawdust can be used in small
amounts to alter moisture levels.
or

e.g. 11 (by vol.) ratio of food waste wood
chip (30-351 CN ratio, 60 65 moisture Level)
CAN NOT COMPOST PLASTIC, METAL, GLASS

How the IVCss Systems Work
Fresh damp waste 60 65 water
Water vapour and CO2 are produced by the
composting bacteria throughout the process and
they are vented to atmosphere or further
treatment if required.
Getting dryer throughout process
Excess water is drained to a sump for re-use or
disposal after further treatment.
Maturation zone
Hygienisation zone
Dry product goes to maturation area for 4 - 8
wks.
Exiting product 40 - 45 water
Heated area
Temperature Probes

Carbon Footprint
  • Every t food waste generates c15t CO2eq
  • On site composting saves c90 CO2eq
    emissions
  • An Hotel doing 500 covers/day will generate
    c1t/week
  • c50t/a
  • 3 VW Golf 2.0 Tdi doing 50,000m/a off the
    road.
