What is a concussion?

• When the head undergoes direct trauma, the brain
  can slosh around inside the skull and even bang
  against it. This can lead to bruising of the
  brain, tearing of blood vessels, and injury to
  the nerves. When this happens, a temporary loss
  of normal brain function can occur resulting in a
  concussion.

Cardinal Signs of a Concussion

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Vision Disturbance
• Loss of Balance
• Confusion
• Ringing in the Ears
• Nausea

Grading the Severity of a Concussion

• Grade 1
• No loss of consciousness and post traumatic
  amnesia less than 30minutes
• Grade 2
• Loss of consciousness less than 5 minutes or post
  traumatic amnesia of 30 minutes to 2 hours.
• Grade 3
• Loss of consciousness greater than 5 minutes or
  post traumatic amnesia greater than 24 hours.

Second Impact Syndrome

• If an athlete returns to play before concussion
  symptoms have cleared the brain can swell
  dangerously after a minor blow.
• This is often a fatal complication.

Structure

• The newly designed protective shell extends to

  around the head's center of gravity.

  player's head allows for greater room to manage
  the types of hits that can cause concussion

  faceguard from the shell reduces jarring to the
  player from low-level impacts to the faceguard.
