Title: NANOTECHNOLOGY

1
NANOTECHNOLOGY
  • By Pupils _at_ KNBS
  • Frankfurt 2005

2
What is Nanotechnology?
  • Nanotechnology
  • noun
  • An area of science which deals with developing
and producing extremely small tools and machines
by controlling the arrangement of individual
    atoms.

3
What is Nanotechnology?
  • Nanotechnology is an umbrella term that covers
many areas of research dealing with objects that
are measured in nanometers. A nanometer (nm) is a
billionth of a meter, or a millionth of a
    millimeter.

4
What is Nanotechnology?
  • In the next 50 years, machines will get
increasingly smaller -- so small that thousands
of these tiny machines would fit into the full
stop at the end of this sentence.

5
The Uses Of Nanotechnology
6
Smooth Surfaces
  • Ultra smooth surfaces can be produced atom by
    atom
  • This means
  • cleaning will be
  • minimal as dirt will
  • just glide off

7
Nanoelectronics
  • Nanoelectronics can be used to create small
    objects
  • These small objects can hold much more
    information than usual electronic devices

8
Nanotechnology Possibilities
  • Nanotechnology could be programmed to manipulate
the molecules and atoms after they have been made
  • Nanobots could be the
  • first to acquire these
  • manipulating skills

9
Nanobots in Medicine

Nanotechnology for MedicineRespirocytes
  • Respirocytes are artificial red blood cells, and
move through the blood stream carrying precious
    oxygen and carbon dioxide.
  • Despite all this each respirocyte is between 0.2
    and 2 microns in diameter.

11
Whats in a Respirocyte
  • As red blood cells must carry oxygen and carbon
dioxide Respirocytes have been designed to carry
both gases and keep them separate from each other
    as well.
  • Respirocytes carry the gases in small chambers
and have rotors around the edges to keep the
    constant flow of gas

12
What could this do for us?
  • In the future a respirocyte could serve as a
    universal blood substitute.
  • It could also be used to cure diseases such as
Anemia, lung diseases, asphyxia and other
    respiratory problems.

13
When will this be available?
  • Many scientists already know that human trail
with nanotechnology began in December 2003.
  • This could improve all life on earth and quite
possibly increase the worlds life expectancy.
