Brief Life Story

• Born 1776 in Germany
• impressive student, sent to Brunswick Collegium
  then Gottingen University
• 2 wives and 5 children (although one died shortly
  after birth).
• Died in 1855

Mathematical Advances

• Over 11,000 works at time of death
• Worked on everything from basic mathematics to
  astronomy
• Worked up until his death because Gauss felt it
  was his duty as a good citizen

• He arranged data from astronomical data, which we
  now use to describe a normal distribution of data.
