    costly design mistakes
  • Help key decision makers articulate their design
    requirements
  • Fuel demand for quality building
  • Expand the focus beyond energy

9
Energy Efficiency-why does it matter
  • Assembly Bill 1103 Approved 10/12/07
  • Requires elec gas utilities to maintain records
of energy consumption data of all nonresidential
buildings to upload data to Energy Star Portfolio
    Manager
  • Requires on January 1, 2010 that nonres bldg
owners disclose benchmarking data ratings to
    prospective buyers or lessee

10
Office Buildings in California
  • Single largest energy user
  • Electric Consumption Cooling 28
  • Lighting 22 Office equipment 26
  • Ventilation 7 Refrigeration 1 Space Heating
6 Other 8 Cooking Water heating 1 each
  • Focus on the big users and do an energy audit
  • Review the energy checklist for starters

11
Energy Checklist
  • HVAC Equipment
  • Replace or supplement A/C units with evaporative
    coolers
  • Install Variable Speed Drives on fans
  • Make sure controls are operating properly
  • Regularly clean condensor coils, check ducts
    pipes for insulation wear
  • Consider installing an economizer

12
HVAC Continued
  • Use reflective window film on south facing
    windows

    output
