Title: WS-RF WS-Notification

1
WS-RF WS-Notification
  • Ben Clifford
  • For NM-WG

2
WS-RF components
  • WS-Resources
  • WS-Resource Properties
  • WS-Resource Lifetime
  • WS-Notification (multiple specs now)
  • WS-Renewable References
  • WS-Service groups

3
WS-Resources
  • Standard way of representing state
  • If you have a web service call that passes in a
cookie / token / session-id to every call to
represent some state, WS-Resources provide a
    standard way to do this.
  • Some web services perform their own state
management (for example, in Amazon, pass an item
number or a basket ID to certain calls). WS-RF
provides a standard way to do this.
  • Use other WS-RF pieces to act on WS-Resources
  • Maybe submitting a NM-WG Request schema request
    could create a new resource?

4
WS-Resource Properties
  • Standard way to expose WS-Resource state as XML
  • OGSI ServiceData
  • Schema depends on type of resource
  • Standard querying operations
  • Used in conjunction with WS-Notification specs,
    standard subscription mechanism
  • Eg. Maybe could use NM-WG Response schema

5
WS-Resource Lifetime
  • Lifetime management of WS-Resources
  • Leasing / soft-state
  • Explicit destruction of state

6
WS-Notification
  • Recently split into 3 specs
  • Notification/messaging
  • With WS-Resource Properties spec, provides
standard way to deliver changes in WS-RP values
  • But not restricted to that can deliver other
    kinds of notification

7
WS-Renewable References
  • Builds on WS-Addressing
  • A reference refers to a web service or a
    WS-Resource
  • Mechanism for getting a new reference to the same
WS-Resource if the old reference becomes stale.

8
WS-Service Groups
  • Mechanism for grouping WS-Resources (and plain
    web services)
  • Use to build registries or represent any other
    collections of services
  • Doesnt define meaning for grouping
