CLEANTECH SWEDEN INTRODUCTION
Our investment in cellulose-based ethanol
production in Sweden is aimed at developing
technology for biomass power generation projects
in China. Success will set a good example for
China-Sweden cooperation in the areas of
environment protection, improvement of rural
living standards and development of alternative
energy. Kai Johan Jiang Chairman of Dragon
Power Group Ltd and National Bio Energy Group
Ltd, China
Sweden is a world leader in developing
entrepreneurial companies in the cleantech
space. We have found this to be particularly true
in areas which complement other strong Swedish
industrial sectors, such as pulp and paper, woody
biomass, heavy duty truck and buses, and
electronics/energy efficiency. We also
appreciate the strong engineering support
available to help scale up novel alternative
energy projects. Bernie Bulkin Senior Advisor,
Vantage Point Venture Partners and Chairman,

CLEANTECH SWEDEN INTRODUCTION
Sweden is the right place to pursue cooperation
in alternative energy development. It is a global
leader in renewable energy and alternative fuels
use. Its citizens identify climate change as
the number one problem in the world and the
Swedish Government considers climate change to be
one of the major environmental and political
challenges of this century. OECD rankings
place Sweden among the best in the world on
environmental sensitivity. It was the first to
commit to a specific plan for carbon reduction
with fossil fuel independence by 2020 it had the
first ethanol plant in the world in 1909 it is
pioneering cellulosic ethanol at three RD
plants, and it has advanced policy decisions
quickly by mandating alternative fuels at pumps
nationwide. Electricity generation in Sweden is
basically fossil fuel free and the major
Scandinavian producer, Vattenfall is the leading
industry proponent for carbon reduction,
pioneering one of the first carbon sequestration
projects in the world. With our close industry
cooperation we are natural allies in the auto and
energy sectors for the development of these
technologies.
