The Problem

• In the fall of 2006, Florida needed 33,000 new
  teachers
• Replacement of leavers
• Increase in population
• Reduction of class size (constitutional
  amendment)
• In Mathematics and Science, Florida needed 4,550
  new teachers
• Floridas colleges and universities produced 250
  mathematics and science teachers
