5Todays P-16 Structure
- The Alliance of Education Agency Heads (2006 - ?)
- Created by Governor Perdue to replace the
Education Coordinating Council - Includes heads of seven education agencies
- Supported by a 20-member implementation team
comprised of education agency staff and the
business community
6Lessons Learned about the State P-16 Structure
- Governors will change the name and structure, but
the work will and must go on! - Whatever the name of the structure, it must
attend to itself as a partnership. - A changing P-16 structure at the state level does
not mean that the local P-16 structure must make
the same changes. - Change is usually necessary to keep an
organization fresh and moving forward.
7Goals
- Increase high school graduation rate, decrease
high school drop-out rate, and increase
post-secondary enrollment rate. - Strengthen teacher quality, recruitment, and
retention. - Improve workforce readiness skills.
- Develop strong education leaders, particularly at
the building level. - Improve the SAT/ACT scores of Georgia students.

20Total Funding for USG P-16 for FY 2007
21Lessons Learned
- Must establish a precise workplan early on that
focuses on both alignment and teacher quality - Funding from the state will need to be
supplemented with federal and private funds - Each state agency must have staff dedicated to
P-16 work - Neither schools nor universities and colleges,
separate from the other, can close the gaps
