- Radio setup procedures
- Turn on the radio
- Adjust the volume.
- Check for correct radio frequency (13-WVDC-1,
13-CDC-1, 13-GHRC-1, etc.) - Check for low battery strength indicator icon.
- Check radio for damaged or broken parts.

- See the Orange emergency button on top of radio?
Do not press this button unless you are under
duress or in need of assistance. - Once pushed, an alarm will be set off and
officers will respond to your location. - Notify your supervisor of any radio problems.

- Think about what you are going to say, before you
say it. - Take a deep breath, then make your transmission.
- Press the transmission button on the side of the
radio to transmit your message.

- Never talk loudly or yell into the radios
microphone, your voice may become distorted and
unclear. - Give clear and precise radio transmissions.

- Attention on the facility. Get everyones
attention that something is happening and you
need or will need assistance. - Give the location of the incident
- Explain what is happening

- Try to stay calm during the incident and be a
good witness to what has happening.

- If there is a fight
- Give the number of people involved two
inmates fighting. - If a deputy is involved say so, deputy
involved.

- Are weapons involved? If so, give out the
type of weapons observed, if possible one
inmate has a shank. - Identify the inmate with the weapon when the
first deputy arrives on scene.

- Repeat the radio transmission and keep the
facility informed of what is happening. - Lock down all inmates in the housing unit.

four (all secure) once the incident is under
control.

transmissions - Fight between inmates.
- Medical Emergency (Man Down, Code Blue, etc.).
- Fire in an inmate housing unit.

- Misuse of the radio could cause injury or even
death to one or more of your fellow employees. - Keep all radio transmissions as brief as
possible. - Keep all radio transmissions on a professional
level.
