Policy Purpose
  • Protect the health and safety of Greeks and
    attendees
  • Preserve the Greek system at Georgia Tech
  • Defend fraternity and fraternity officers

Your Role
  • Know the social policy and teach it to your
    chapters
  • Prevent problems through active risk management
  • Abide by all social policies to protect the lives
    of your members, the life of your chapter, and
    Greek life at Georgia Tech

Policy Overview Events
  • What types of parties must I register?
  • Party - 1.5 times size of chapter (e.g. band, DJ,
    etc.)
  • Mixers
  • Social - invited guests only (date night, formal,
    etc.)
  • Why register parties?
  • Reduces fraternity liability
  • Aids in event planning (attendance, security,
    etc.)

FAQ Why register Formal?
  • Off-campus events and formals must be registered
  • Allows IFC and GTPD to monitor house in case of
    fire, burglary, etc.
  • Allows Georgia Tech to be aware of whereabouts of
    students in case of an emergency or disaster

Policy Overview Regulations
  • All events must be registered 5 days prior to the
    event
  • All parties must abide by a BYOB standard
  • No purchases with fraternity money
  • No passing the hat purchases
  • No Open Bar, even it is limited to guests 21
  • No bulk quantity/common container

  • No public advertising
  • No open parties
  • No overflow of party from property boundaries
    fence must be constructed if no boundary exists
  • No glass containers

FAQ Off-Campus Parties
  • Parties at Home Park residences, apartments, and
    other locations that could be associated with a
    fraternity are prohibited from distributing
    alcohol with kegs, open bars, or any other common
    source of alcohol
  • Legal liability for individual homeowners, as
    well as chapter officers

FAQ Binge Drinking
  • IFC Social Committee will immediately issue
    citations without opportunity for remediation if
    binge drinking is occurring at an event
  • Includes, but not limited to funneling,
    shotgunning, group shots, shot parties, keg
    stands
  • Linked to short-term development of alcoholic
    liver disease and alcoholic hepatitis, as well as
    numerous cases of alcohol-induced coma and death

Policy Overview Security
  • Minimum 3 Security Officers from licensed, bonded
    company must be present for any party to begin
  • For events 300, one extra officer per addl 1 to
    100 persons
  • Event is capped at estimated attendance on
    registration form
  • Security may deny access to any intoxicated
    person
  • Security company contract reduces fraternity
    liability

  • Party Packet can be picked up day of party or
    Friday prior to party
  • May not be opened until Security arrives
  • Return to GTPD Dispatch with Security Form,
    Unused Wristbands, and Guest List

FAQ Wristband Distribution
  • Given to those 21
  • No wristband No alcohol
  • Provided by IFC in party packets

FAQ Sign-in Sheets
  • Standard sheet available at gatechifc.com
  • Includes Name, Signature, Arrival Time, and if
    guest, Host Name
  • All persons at event, incl. brothers, should sign
    in

FAQ Guest Lists
  • Allowable sources for guest lists
  • Private, invisible, closed facebook group thats
    admin invite only
  • Private, closed E-vite
  • Recommended that all fraternities keep a guest
    list for all events, which allows access to be
    limited and allows for better risk management

Policy OverviewSober Monitors
  • 10 (max. 5) sober monitors per event
  • Recommended 2 of 5 are on Exec
  • Must stay sober and drug-free all night
  • Names must be posted in prominent place
  • Identify potential problems
  • Present themselves at request of IFC Patrol
  • One monitor should be at sign-in table at all
    times

Policy OverviewSafety Patrols
  • Patrols arrive at least twice per event
  • President or highest ranking officer and Sober
    Monitors must present themselves at security
  • Check security, patrol party and private rooms to
    verify appropriate risk management procedures
  • Instruct officer in proper risk management
    procedures and document infractions for Judicial
    Board action
  • In egregious cases, take action to close party

FAQ Noise Complaints
  • Outside 1200 am / Inside 130 am
  • Immediate shutdown if complaint is filed after 12
    / 130
  • Attempt to resolve complaints between chapters
    GTPD should always be contacted as a last resort
  • Note Atlanta Police can shut down any party if
    amplified sound is audible more than 50 yards away

FAQ Unregistered Parties
  • Huge legal risk to fraternity and fraternity
    officers
  • Minimum semester of social probation
  • Can result in removal of charter
  • Be wise Register all events
  • If you refuse to register an event, employ
    stringent risk management policies and be prepared
