Steel Rule
  • Steel rules are made from rustless steel.
  • Lengths vary from 300mm, 500mm and 1000mm.
  • Uses include measuring of distances, marking
straight lines and testing surfaces for flatness.

3
Steel Tape Measure
  • Most are fitted with a hook on the end of the
    tape.
  • Lengths vary from 2m to 30m.
  • Uses include setting out or checking large
    measurements.

4
Blacksmiths Square
  • Made from one piece of flat carbon steel.
  • Lengths vary from 300mm x 200mm to 900mm x 600mm.
  • Used for marking and testing angles of 90 degrees.

5
Scriber
  • Made from carbon tool steel that has been
    hardened at the point.
  • Used with a guide such as a rule, square or
template to scribe or draw lines on metal.
  • It is held like a pencil and is moved along the
edge of the rule, square or template.

6
Engineers try Square
  • Consisting of a blade and stock.
  • Both the blade and stock may be made hardened and
    precision ground.
  • Used for marking, testing and setting up angles
    of 90 degrees.

7
Engineers Bevel
  • Consisting of a blade and stock which are
adjustable in relation to each other.
  • Used for marking, measuring and testing angles.

8
Spring Dividers
  • Spring dividers consist of two pointed legs held
together on a fulcrum (pivot point).
  • Settings are made by turning the knurled
    adjusting nut.
  • Uses include scribing arcs or circles, marking
divisions and transferring measurements from a
    rule.

9
Odd Leg Calipers
  • Odd leg calipers are also known as hermaphrodite
    calipers.
  • They consist of one divider leg and one caliper
    leg.
  • Used for marking to mark lines parallel to edges.
