  • Policy drivers
  • The demand for labour and skills
  • To support people to make successful transitions
    to further learning, training or employment
  • To support people who are disengaged at risk of
    disengagement from learning, training and work
  • To support those wishing to return to the
    workforce
  • To support individuals to become more employable
    by increasing their employability

  • A career is a process of choosing the variety of
    work, life, learning and leisure roles a person
    undertakes over the course of their lifetime.
  • Career development is the process of deciding how
    those choices are made.
  • Whilst a great many people are able to make those
    choices for themselves a significant number of
    people require some form of assistance to realize
    their career choices.

  • Career development is happening in this state.
  • South Australia Works in the Regions, Regional
    Coordinators in particular, have made a
    substantial contribution to establishing career
    development services in Mount Gambier, Whyalla,
    Port Augusta, Murray Bridge, Mount Barker, and
    Northern Adelaide.
  • South Australia Works in the Regions in
    partnership with the Commonwealth Government are
    making investments in career development services
    and are making a difference.
  • Almost 1500 people have received career
    development services with over 500 employment
    outcomes achieved.

  • In response, the South Australian Government
    proposes the establishment of South Australia
    Works CareersSA A mechanism for delivering high
    quality career development services in the State
  • CareersSA will
  • Maximise learning, workforce participation, and
    productivity through the provision of high
    quality, coordinated and accessible whole- of-
    life career services for South Australians

  • CareersSA has been developed in collaboration
    with a range of career development stakeholders
    and South Australia Works in the Regions
    Regional Coordinators
  • The outcome is a mechanism for the strategic
    provision of state-wide career development
    services for individuals, groups of people,
    industry and career development practitioners
  • CareersSA is underpinned by a policy framework
    that is being driven by current research and
    policy around career development. In particular
  • Australian Blueprint for Career Development
  • Guiding Principles for Career Development
    Services and Career Information Products
  • Professional Standards for Australian Career
    Development Practitioners

  • The objectives of CareersSA are to
  • Provide career information and services to high
    priority groups
  • Provide employers with information
  • Assist young people to make an effective
    transitions to further learning, training and/or
    employment
  • Assist young people at risk of not making an
    effective transition
  • Provide access to labour market information

  • A state-wide network of high quality flexible
    consistent and co-coordinated career development
    services for individuals groups of people
    industry and career development practitioners
  • High quality, reliable careers and labour market
    intelligence
  • Skills Recognition Services
  • CareersSA web-based portal
  • Interagency Career Development Network
  • Career Development Toolkit

  • CareersSA will have many benefits
  • It will reinforce the work of Employment Programs
    and the Industry Skills Development Directorates
  • Ensure people are not disadvantaged in the labour
    market
  • CareersSA will help people be aware of the
    opportunities that are available to them

    and guidance to help people to realise they do
    have options

    from education, training and the workforce

    choices whilst, at the same time, meeting the
    skills requirements of the state
  • CareersSA will seek to generate greater skills
    recognition and development to increase
    opportunities for workforce participation and
    at the same time guide people towards occupations
    in demand

    remaining in employment
