  • Examine pig for skin lesions, swollen joints, or
    other abnormalities.
  • Place pig on its back with the stomach facing up
and cut the legs away from the body.
  • Cut under the skin from the breastbone to toward
the snout, stopping approximately 1-2 inches from
    the tip of the snout.
  • Cut from the breastbone toward the rear. Start
by finding the cartilage under the ball of the
breastbone and working toward the rear of the
    pig.
  • Examine internal organs for location, color, and
    abnormalities.
  • Split the breastbone in half. Remove the lungs
and heart by cutting the throat away in the neck
and pulling toward the rear (cut as needed).
  • Examine the heart and lungs for lesions, excess
    fluid, and color.
  • Examine intestines for lesions, presence of
    blood, color, and fecal consistency.
  • Examine the stomach for lesions, presence of
    blood, and emptiness or fullness.
  • Record death loss reason using diagnostics flow
