2About the Slide MasterOverview
- The slide masters purpose is to let you make a
global change such as replacing the font style
and have that change reflected on all the
slides in your presentation.

- You would typically go to the slide to do the
following - Change the font or bullets
- Insert art such as a logo that you want to
appear on multiple slides - Change placeholder positions, size, and
formatting.

- Design template A file that contains the styles
in a presentation, including - The type and size of bullets and fonts
- Placeholder sizes and positions
- Background design and fill color schemes
- A slide master and optional title master.
5About the Slide MasterOverview
- Placeholder Boxes with dotted or hatch-marked
borders that are part of most slide layouts.
These boxes hold title and body text or objects
such as charts, tables, and pictures.

6About the Slide MasterOverview
- What's the difference between a text placeholder
and a text box? - The placeholder for title or bullets is present
in a slide layout when you select it in the
Layout task pane. It has a text prompt to "Click
here to enter text," but no text will be visible
in the final slide until you enter it. - The title placeholder, when filled with text, is
a special text box that contains the slide
titlethat's important because it makes it easier
to identify the slide. - The bullet placeholder, when filled with text, is
a special text box that contains bullets and the
bullet icons. - A text box can be placed anywhere on a slide and
is not included in a layout. But you can add
bullets or numbering to a selected text box just
by selecting Format, Bullets and Numbering.

- Color Scheme A set of eight balanced colors that
you can apply to slides, notes pages, or audience
handouts - A color scheme consists of
- A background color
- A color for lines and text
- Six other colors selected to make slides easy to
read.

9Insert a Slide Master or Title Master
- To see the side master, go to View menu, then to
Master, and click on Slide Master.

- Do any of the following
- To insert a slide master that uses the default
styles in Microsoft PowerPoint, on the Slide
Master View toolbar, go to Insert menu and click
on New Slide Master

- To insert a slide master by adding a new design
template, go to format menu in the toolbar, click
Slide Design, point to the design you want, click
the arrow, and select one of the options on the
shortcut menu

- If you want to insert a title master for an
existing slide master, select the slide master
thumbnail on the left, and on the Slide Master
View toolbar, go to Insert menu and click New
Title Master - Title master The slide that stores information
from the design template pertaining to styles on
title slides, including - Placeholder sizes and positions
- Background design
- Color schemes

- When you insert a new master or add a design
template, the design appears in the Slide Design
task pane under Used in this presentation - The design is then available to apply to any new
slides when you are working in normal view.
14Reapply the Layout and Font to a Slide
- If you have changed the placeholders or fonts on
a slide, you can reapply the placeholder
properties and fonts from the slide master

- Display the slide in normal view
- On the Format menu, click Slide Layout.

- Point to the type of layout the slide uses, such
as Text or Text and Content (the name of the
layout appears in ToolTips when you point), then
click the arrow, and click Reapply Layout.
17Edit a Slide Master
- To make a change that will affect multiple
slides, change the slide master - Typical changes include
- Inserting art (for example, a logo)
- Changing the font or bullet style
- Changing placeholder formatting, size, and
position - Note You can remove placeholders from a slide
master or title master, and you can later replace
placeholders that you have removed, but you
cannot add any new placeholders.
18Edit a Slide Master
- To change slides that use a Title Slide layout,
change the title master - Layout The arrangement of elements, such as
title and subtitle text, lists, pictures, tables,
charts, AutoShapes, and movies, on a slide.

- On the View menu, point to Master, and then click
Slide Master - In the thumbnails on the left, click the slide
master or title master that you want to change.
If you don't see the title master that you want,
insert it.

- Insert a title master
- Click the slide master thumbnail for the title
master to insert. - On the toolbar, go to Insert menu and click New
Title Master - On the slide master or title master, make the
changes that you want.

- Display the slide in normal view
- On the Format menu, click Slide Layout.
22Inserting Pictures
- Insert art such as a logo that you want to
appear on multiple slides - You can embed or link pictures into you slide
master - Embed Copy and paste a picture and then size and
position the picture to your desired location - Link Go to Insert menu, then Picture, and click
to From File - Retrieve the folder where your picture is in,
highlight your picture, and click on Insert
button - Size and position the picture to your desired
location in your slide master or your title master
23Adding Footnotes
- You can also type, i.e. your Department name, in
the Slide Masters footnote placeholder and have
it displayed on multiple slides.
24Delete a Slide Master or Title Master
- When you delete a slide master, the title master
is automatically deleted with it - On the View menu, point to Master, and then click
Slide Master.

- In the thumbnails on the left, click the master
to delete.

- On the Slide Master View toolbar, go to Edit menu
and click Delete Master.
