Glossary

• WEB 2 interactive web Wikipedia says Web 2.0 is
  a term describing the trend in the use of World
  Wide Web technology and web design that aims to
  enhance creativity, information sharing, and,
  most notably, collaboration among users. These
  concepts have led to the development and
  evolution of web-based communities and hosted
  services, such as social-networking sites, wikis,
  blogs.
• BLOGS On-line journal Wikipedia says is a
  website, usually maintained by an individual,
  with regular entries of commentary, descriptions
  of events, or other material such as videos.
• PODCAST - online broadcasts Wikipedia says a
  series of digital-media files which are
  distributed over the Internet using syndication
  feeds for playback on portable media players and
  computers.
• CYBERBULLYING On line Harassment involves the
  use of information and communication technologies
  to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile
  behaviour by an individual or group, that is
  intended to harm others

SCHOOL POLICY

• CODE OF CONDUCT There is a clear and well
  defined expectation from the school as to the
  behaviour of children when they are using the
  internet or any ICT equipment. This is in keeping
  with the expectation of behaviour that children
  have towards one another in normal daily contact.
• LESSONS ON CYBERSAFETY The children have received
  and will continue to receive lesson in
  Cybersafety
• FILTERED SYSTEM The school uses a filtered
  system. We also have control in
  blocking/unblocking unsuitable websites.
• PLANNING The staff take into consideration which
  websites will be beneficial to the students when
  researching a topic.
• FOCUS SEARCHES When searching the internet
  teachers give guidance
• SUPERVISION The children are supervised when
  using the internet.

What Parents Can Do

• Check out the sites your child uses
• Close Supervision
• Select the sites and setup Bookmarks/Favourites
• Limit email correspondence
• Use filters
• Be actively involved
• Reinforce safe online behaviour
• Investigate any chat rooms or online clubs
• Discuss good cyber manners
• Keep the family computer in a public area of the
  home
• Use family friendly search engines
