- The following NSLDS upgrades have taken place in
an effort to position the system for future
re-engineering efforts - Upgraded the NSLDS mainframe system to Z900 in
September 2003. - Upgraded the operating system to Z/OS version 1.4
in January 2004. - Upgraded to 64 bit Discovery Process.

- NSLDS will begin collecting additional
information from the FFEL community on
Consolidation Loans - FFEL data providers to provide multiple
consolidation loans - FFEL data providers to provide subsidy indicators

- NSLDS will begin to store outstanding principle
balances when loans are paid in full by
consolidation. - Assist in determining amounts of consolidation
loans - Storing balances on a regular basis

- Currently NSLDS receives feeds from Direct Loan
Servicing and Debt Collection. - CSB requirements
- Consolidation of data

- NSLDS is developing an internal, interim solution
to obtaining data from CDDTS. - Updated loan status, balance, and holder
information
26DCS Rehabilitated Loans
- Improvements to rehabilitation for defaulted
borrowers in the DCS portfolio that have made 12
consecutive payments under their satisfactory
repayment agreement - NSLDS is enhancing its interface with DCS to
identify rehabilitated loans - NSLDS will begin providing loan details to ECMC
on these identified loans - ECMC will report the loans in their regular
weekly submission

NSLDS in June. - Approximately 75 use third party servicers
- 3.5 million open Perkins loans in NSLDS
- 231,623 estimated duplicates in NSLDS
- 14,238 outstanding identifier errors

compatible - Enhanced the processing and display of the
conflict values and Date of Loan Status field in
the loan Process Detail Error Report. - 232 schools are using the new version.
32Data Quality and Anomalies
- Student with identifier conflicts
- Duplicate loans
- Students with loans exceeding 40,000
- Closed loans with positive balances
- Open loans with zero balances
- Some schools still reporting new NU loans
33Data Quality Progress
- Reduced number of closed loans with positive
balances by more than 50. - Reduced the number of duplicate loans by over
22,000 in the last year. - Continue to provide individual assistance to
schools who want to reconcile portfolios.

35What Can You Do?
- Eliminate creating duplicate loans
- Work error reports in a timely manner
- Report on time
- If you think your institution has duplicates or
other data anomalies, request and work a
reconciliation file.
36What Does NSLDS Do?
- Continues to work with DCS to make matches on
liquidated portfolios - Produces error reports to let data providers know
what loans did not load or update in NSLDS - Monitors performance and compliance
