Exploring the influencing factors of Liver
Health Protection among Employees in a Hospital

Objective This study is based on PRECEDE
model using predisposing factors, enabling
factors and reinforcing factors to explore
medical care personnels cognition, attitude,
environment support, social support and their
influences toward liver health and proposes
suggestions related to health promotion plan
according to survey results.

  • Generally speaking, the employees of the
    Hospital got higher scores on
  • liver health knowledge and attitude but got lower
    scores on environment
  • support and social support. Especially, those who
    are under 30 have much
  • lower level of environment support and social
    support than those who are
  • over 30. Presuming the causes, they must because
    the younger employees
  • with less seniority and non-adequation of
    hospital rotary shifts (Lo Ching-
  • whei, et. at, 2006), and be unfamiliar with
    hospitals organization and usable
  • resources so that their got lower supports. Liu
    Jieh-hsin (2007) has a study to
  • find that colleagues support has prediction
    about healthy behavior so that we
  • should reinforce the social support among
    colleagues.
  • Toward the results I propose the following
    suggestions
  • Upgrading the exercise trend while the
    high-ranking officials to execute it
  • with encouragements.
  • 2. Setting exclusive personnel to trace the
    Hospitals employees with abnormal result of
    liver function inspection and timely remind them
    to do the inspection and trace.
  • 3. Toward the employees who need to do rotary
    shift, preparing nutritional
  • meals and providing rotary shift health
    lessons.
  • 4. Increasing the colleagues of administrative
    offices with liver health
  • knowledge.

Methods This study uses self-filling
questionnaire survey to collect data with the
employees of Taipei County Hospital as the matrix
adopting stratified sampling by the percentages
of administrative personnel and medical personnel
(doctors, nurses, medical technicians) with 250
samples and then we collected 201 copies of
effective questionnaire with return rate as
80.4. The collected questionnaires were
analyzed by SPSS12.0 using t test to analyze the
subjects social demography variables and if
various scales reach salient significance as well
as use multi-regression to analyze the
influencing factors among the scales.

Results The results show the mean value of
the subjects is 21.73 the over-weighted and the
obesity occupy 25.1.The employees get the
average score of 0.83 (0-1) ranking at
intermediate-high level on liver health knowledge
with that those younger medical care personnel
who have heavier work have better liver health
knowledge(plt .05) the average score is 4.18
(1-5) with that those who have positive attitude
and are more satisfied with working environment
have better attitude of liver health (plt .05) as
for environment support, the average score is
3.36 (1-5) ranking at intermediate level with
that those who are older, married, administrative
personnel feeling lighter work and satisfied
working environment have higher score of
environment support (plt .05) as for social
support, the average score is 0.24 ranking at low
level with that those who are older,
highly-educated, longer-serviced feeling more
satisfied toward working environment have higher
score of social support (plt .05).
