Relationship of Vine and Branches

• Branch must abide in vine (v. 2)
• Result bearing good fruit
• Fruit? Holy living (Gal. 522-23) Soul-winning
  (Jn. 435)
• Father prunes us to bear more fruit
• Cut off dead/excessive parts improve branch
• Discipline leave behind sin and apathy (Heb.
  12)
• Gods method of improvement His word (v. 3)
• Cleanses us fills us with knowledge and holy
  life

Necessity of a Proper Relationship

• Survival!! Without Jesus, we can do nothing
  spiritually (vv. 4-5)
• Get into Christ by faith (Gal. 326-27)
• Obedience to His word is evidence of our abiding
  in Jesus (1 Jn. 26 2 Tim. 317)
• By their fruits you will know them (Matt.
  717-20)

Consequences of a Broken Relationship

• Useless branches are cast out and destroyed (vv.
  2a, 6 cf. Ezek. 151-5)
• Losing ones salvation is possible NOT once
  saved, always saved
• Never really converted? The branch was in
  Christ (v. 2a)

Blessings of a Proper Relationship

• When the word grows in us, good spiritual fruit
  is produced (vv. 7-10 2 Pet. 15-8)
• How Jesus dwells in us (Eph. 317 Rom. 1017
  Gal. 220 Phil. 413)
• Brings glory to God and satisfaction to the child
  of God (v. 11)
• Basis of our fellowship with God (v. 10 1 Jn.
  13-7)
• Will you be pruned or cut off?
