2National Award for the Teaching of Information
and Computer Sciences in Higher Education in
Scotland.
3Our aim.
- The aim of the award is to recognise and reward
HE ICS practitioners in Scotland who have made an
outstanding contribution to the growth,
development or enhancement of the teaching of the
disciplines through their work in national,
regional or institutional contexts, and to draw
their achievements to the attention of the ICS
community as a whole. - One award of 5,000 is available in the academic
year 2007-08.
4Eligibility
- Applications can only be received from
individuals. - The awards are open to all full or part-time ICS
HE practitioners currently teaching in HEIs or
colleges of further and higher education.
5The Application Process.

Nominate Two Referees (1 x home institution 1 x

Return Application Form and Nominated Referees
supporting statements to ICS Subject centre.
Closing date May 30th. Emailed submissions will
be acceptable.
6Adjudication of Submissions
- All applications will be assessed by an
Evaluation Panel comprising Subject Centre Staff
and their nominated representatives. - The decisions of this Panel will be final, and
the award winners will be announced on Monday 16
June 2008 by email. - Particular attention will be paid by the Panel to
the ways in which applicants have shown evidence
of - success in advancing the teaching and learning of
the subject, whether in the classroom or as part
of departmental, regional or national
initiatives - contributing to the wider growth and development
of the discipline in higher education - a track record or clear potential to influence or
help others in the ICS community in relation to
the research and development of teaching and
learning and - the distinctiveness of the applicants
contribution to the development of teaching and
learning in the discipline.
7Obligations of Award Winners
Award winners will be required to support the
work of the Subject Centre in the following ways
- by providing a brief account of their work, for
publication on the Subject Centre website. - by contributing to the Subject Centres 10th
Annual Conference and to one other Subject Centre
activity such as a national seminar, regional
network or workshop.

9- General Development Funds
- Aim is to bring into wider use exemplary
techniques, methods or - materials already developed and used successfully
within local departments. - This scheme has been designed to
- promote and disseminate effective teaching,
learning and assessment - activities
- encourage development and exchange of
innovative techniques - develop good practice in the evaluation of
teaching methods - raise the profile of pedagogic research within
the ICS disciplines. - 35000 has been allocated for projects in
2008-9.

11- Innovative Teaching Development Fund
- Supported by Microsoft, the fund aimed to
- Provide an environment for the effective
promotion - and dissemination of best teaching
practice in the - technology arena
- Support the incorporation of Microsoft
technologies into the - curriculum

13Reusable Learning Objects. As part of the JISC
distributed e-learning programme, the ICS subject
centre received funding to support a special
tranche of the ICS development funds over 2005 to
2007 dedicated to increasing constituency
involvement in the development, use and embedding
of Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs).
