• Indias film industry
• Located in Bombay now renamed Mumbai
• Got its name from Hollywood and its location
• First silent Indian feature film was released
  1911 by D. P. Phalke
• Over 250 theaters in just Mumbai!

• Lots of people go to the movies in both India and
  the United States
• The Filmfare Awards in India are like our Academy
  Awards that we have in the U.S.
• There is still lots of star drama

Differences between Hollywood and Bollywood

• Movies have very little to no kissing which is
  the complete opposite of Hollywood movies
• There is also lots of action, but no blood shed
• Bollywood produces over double the amount of
  films per year
• In 2003, 877 feature films were released in
  Bollywood while the U.S. Hollywood produced only
  473 films

• There is no Bollywood Walk of fame like the one
  in Hollywood
• The average movie ticket price in India costs
  0.20 in U.S. dollars and in the U.S. the average
  cost 6.41
• Bollywood sells more tickets then Hollywood, but
  because Hollywood charges more for a movie ticket
  they make more money

  million (in U.S. dollars) for each film, while
  actresses receive about half the amount per film
• Hollywood actors can receive between 25 million
  to 30 million per film, while actresses receive
  betweeen 15 million to 20 million for each film
• This is about 10 times as much as Bollywood stars
  get!

The cost of living in India is a lot less than in
the United States. These stars are still
amazingly rich and some even live in palaces!
