LCS Goals

• To help parents better understand what standards
  are
• To show parents the advantages of standards based
  reporting
• To give parents a better understanding of how the
  report card works

What are Standards?

• What students should know and be able to do
• Given by MDE Office of Curriculum
• MS calls them the MS Curriculum Framework
• LCS outcomes are linked to the Frameworks

Why Standards Based Reporting?

• Instruction designed around State Standards
• Sets common, rigorous expectations for academic
  performance for ALL students across the district
• Provides a results focus on learning, not other
  factors used previously in grading
• Emphasizes self-assessment and growth

Why?

• Makes marking and grading more consistent
• Addresses developmental knowledge and skills over
  time
• Provides a basis for accountability and
  application of learning

Advantages

• Parents will see their childs specific strengths
  and weaknesses within each area
• Students are compared to set criteria based on
  academic learning
• The criteria is NO SEVRET to students or parents
• Criteria is available to everyone

What do the grades look like?

• Proficient (P) Student has learned all required
  skills
• Basic (B) Student has learned some skills
• Minimal (M) Student has learned little or no
  skills
