• Groups of around 20 unemployed meet with a leader
• Help with-
• How to apply for jobs - stamps paper provided
• Practise interviews and so on
• Encourage each other
• Must attend every week till get a job

Currently around 45-65 minimum depending on

• Known as WELFARE TO WORK

Welfare to Work

• Everyone should be encouraged to work
• Includes
• People previously in high-paid jobs
• Single parents with children
• Disabled
• No benefits if too many job offers refused

The New Deal

• For long-term unemployed (over 6 months)
• Intensive Gateway period to assess and improve
  job prospects
• After 4 months must take up job placement or
  equivalent
• ALL BENEFITS STOP IF REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING

• Combine looking for jobs with getting benefits
