Present
  • Increasing accountability higher academic
    standards.
  • Era of rapid change - one in which the future
    will be much different from the past and the
    present.
  • Shifting demographics, the changing world
    economy, and the exploding technology growth -
    need to do some things differently.

  • where we must educate our children
  • in what no one knew yesterday,
  • and prepare our schools
  • for what no one knows yet.

Future
  • Students should be prepared with the skills they
    must have in our technological, information-based
    society.
  • Ability to apply interdisciplinary knowledge how
    to research, analyze, communicate and evaluate
    information how to apply knowledge to solve real
    world problems.
  • Go beyond traditional measures of reading
    competence take into account larger picture of
    academic learning needs, test taking competence,
    employability, and life after graduation.

Discussion Circles
  • To involve the district and the community in a
    discussion about school district program and
    service priorities
  • To have an open ended discussion that generates
    ideas from all participants participants are
    experts regarding their own experiences in
    education
  • To value each others opinions and expertise

Discussion Circles
  • 8 - 12 people in a Discussion Circle
  • 8 Study Circles to be used in this project
  • Each Circle has a trained facilitator
  • Four meeting sessions as a Discussion Circle
  • Recommendations presented to the School Board

Responsibility of each Circle
  • To meet in 4 sessions
  • To generate good will discussion through a
    designed process
  • To create a list of district priorities
  • To create 3 to 4 action ideas
  • To listen to the other circles and their ideas
  • To assist in identifying the major ideas from all
    circles
  • To agree to priorities and action ideas that need
    to be recommended to the School Board

Consensus Circle Facilitators
  • Each Circle has a trained facilitator to guide
    you through the four sessions
  • Facilitators will be neutral and unbiased in
    their actions
