- E(E)SI
- Progress
3Why this initiative
- Emphasize the long lasting co-operation in
embedded systems between Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science. - Improve the existing co-operation (facilitate)
- (lectures, scientific counsel, program
coordination) - Improve the visibility of our UT embedded systems
activities.
4Why an initiative
- Existing Research Institutes suffice.
- Existing Research Schools suffice.
No more overlapping disciplines and
over-organization
Projects will be embedded in the existing
institutes and schools CTIT, MESA, Drebbel,
IPA,. . .
5Involved groups
Electrical Engineering (30 persons, 20 fte)
- Integrated circuit design (Nauta)
- VLSI system design and Design automation (Slump)
- Control Engineering (van Amerongen, Broenink)
- Testable Design and Test (Krol, Kerkhoff)
Computer Science (36 persons, 22 fte)
- Formal methods and tools (Brinksma)
- Computer architecture and embedded systems (Krol)
- Distributed and embedded systems (Hartel,
Mullender)
6Involved groups
- TESI is open for all groups with related
activities. - Not all activities of the involved chairs are
necessarily a part of TESI.

9Focus
The research program of TESI is focused on the
following three themes
- Efficiency (Efficient architectures)
- Methodology (of design)
- Correctness
With applications in telematics, mechatronics
10Focus
From Needs to Systems
- new solutions
- new applications
- new paradigms
- new methodologies
Requires a close contact with
and support from industry
11Education
TESI will also play a stimulating and
coordinating role in the development of
- A Major in Embedded Systems
- A Masters in Embedded Systems
