Title: JDW Group

1
JDW Group
2
Composition of JDW Businesses
  • Sugar Sector
  • JDW Sugar Mills (20,000 TCD)
  • Ghotki Sugar Mills (10,000 TCD)
  • United Sugar Mills (8,000 TCD)
  • With a combined crushing capacity of 38,000
TCD, we are the largest group in the sugar sector.

3
  • Sugarcane Farming
  • Farms in JDW United Mills area (17,000 acres)
  • Farms in Ghotki Mills area (6,000 acres)
  • Pioneered Corporate farming in Pakistan.
Largest and the most mechanized farm in the
    country.

4
  • Dairy Farming
  • New dimension to its sugar business .
  • Natural extension of JDW farming operations.
  • First modern dairy farm in the private sector.
  • The herd consists of 1,000 Friesian, Jersey
    AFS cows.

5
  • JDW Power
  • Value addition to its core business i.e. sugar
    production.
  • Initial feasibility work for setting up of 1st
Cogeneration plant of 80-85 MW at JDW Sugar Mills
    is in progress.

6
Performance of the Sugar Sector
  • The Group accounts for 8 to 10 of sugar
    production in the country.

7
Sugar Recovery Comparison (2006-2008/9)
  • Most efficiently run group in the country.

8
Power Sector in Pakistan
  • Great imbalance in demand supply.
  • Current shortages are around 2500-3000 MW.
  • With ever increasing demand for electricity this
deficit will swell to 5500 MW by the year 2010.
  • Pakistan must therefore explore and optimize all
options of power generation i.e. hydel, fossil
fuel, atomic , solar, wind power, cogeneration by
    sugar mills etc. etc.

9
Cogeneration
  • Simultaneous production of Electricity Steam in
    a single power plant.
  • System common in cane sugar industry for a very
    long time.

10
Energy trends in Cogeneration
  • Shift from low pressure to high pressure system
    electricity export.
  • Boiling operating
  • Pressure after
    2007
  • after 2001
  • after 1994

11
Energy trends in Cogeneration
  • High pressure system with mixed fuel firing___
bagasse , rice husk, wood waste, coal etc. etc.

12
Cogeneration Scheme

Potential of Cogeneration in Pakistan
  • In Pakistan more than 83 sugar mills are in
operation with a total cane crushing capacity of
more than 65 million tons per season.
  • All mills have in-house bagasse based power
    generation capability.
  • Currently bagasse is being used most
inefficiently in primitive boilers 23 bar 340oC
and back pressure small turbines (2 to 6 MW).
  • The sugar industry can generate from 2000 to 3000
MW by replacing old power generation system.

14
Current status of Cogeneration at JDW
  • Sugarcane waste product (bagasse) is presently
being burnt inefficiently in low pressure boilers
23 bar 340oC small back pressure turbines (2 to
    6 MW).
  • With the existing boilers turbines JDW Sugar
Mills is producing 21 MW far less than its actual
    potential of 135-140 MW.
  • Power sector will not only add value to bagasse
but also strengthen our core sugar business.

15
Cogeneration Strategy of JDW Group
  • Set up 80 MW power plant at JDW Sugar Mills in
    the first phase.
  • Set up 70 MW power plant at Ghotki Sugar Mills
and expand JDW plants capacity to 120 MW in the
    second phase.
  • Set up 60 MW power plant at United Sugar Mills..
