  • Scope of original project 1996
  • Deepen SS1 to exploit VCR to 120 level (3371 mbc)
  • Deepen SS2 to exploit CL to 132 level (3751 mbc)
  • Increase sub shaft reef hoisting capacity from
    150,000 tpm to 240,000tpm to match the capacity
    of the main shaft
  • Extend Life of Mine to 2026
  • Recover additional 476 tons gold
  • Exploit remaining LCL reserves at TauTona (post
    2005)
  • Partial extraction of TauTona CL pillar (10 tons
    gold)

  • Exploits the VCR from 109 120 levels
  • Will add 4.0 million incremental ounces to
    production
  • Will require capital expenditure of R1.3 billion
    (R130m remaining)
  • Will increase the LOM by 5 years to 2012 at a
    total cash cost of 270/oz
  • Does not sterilize the reserves below 120 level
  • The project comprises the access development to
    VCR reef on 113, 116 and 120 levels, completion
    of surface ice plants and ore pass extensions and
    provision for pumps, sumps and settlers on 121
    level whilst maintaining the mill capacity at
    160,000 tpm.
